Obituary of Maya Hedwig Ackermann

April 3, 1934 – Oberentfelden, Aargau, Switzerland

December 26, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

On the evening of Thursday, December 26, 2024, Maya Ackermann, loving wife of the late Manfred Ackermann and mother of Fred, Sybil, and Jacques, passed away in her home in Calgary, AB.

Maya moved to Canada from Switzerland and started as a nurse at the General Hospital in Rimbey, AB. Following that, she stayed at home tending to her children. Maya drove school bus for Cardinal Coach Lines for eighteen years and trained new school bus drivers.

Maya enjoyed many hobbies throughout her lifetime which included, competitive shooting with the Swiss Rifle Club, dancing with the Swiss Dance Group Alpenroesli, and knitting everyone a warm pair of wool socks or a sweater. Maya also loved tending to her flowers and garden, making sure her yard was always immaculate.

Maya and her husband enjoyed taking their children to their favourite camping site Indian Graves Campground and made many lasting memories from their time spent together. She always enjoyed teaching those around her home, home economic skills which included cooking meals, sewing clothing, and offering cleaning advice. However, the rule was that if you asked what was for supper you were not that hungry, so don’t ask.

Maya will forever be remembered by those around her and will be dearly missed.

Maya is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Fred and Diane, and their daughter Tianna; daughter and son-in-law, Sybil and Sean and their children, Ayden and Brock; and son and daughter-in-law Jacques and Linda, and their children, Daniel, Tait, Tessa, and Tori. She was predeceased by her husband Manfred.

A Celebration of Maya’s Life will be held in the spring of 2025. Service details to come at a later date.
