Obituary of Sharon Diggon
April 22, 1955 – Montreal, Quebec
December 29, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
It is with breaking hearts we announce the passing of our beloved sister and friend, Sharon Diggon, on Sunday, December 29, 2024. Sharon died peacefully at home, just six months after the death of her husband and soul mate Cameron Diggon.
Born in Montreal, to new Canadians Bill and Mavis Drake, she grew up in Calgary, attending Vincent Massey and Central Memorial High School. As a child she was a serious Girl Scout; as a teenager a talented sprinter; and as a young adult a local fashion model. After high school came business college, which launched her career as an administrative assistant. She had an amazing memory for faces and voices, and by the time she met Cameron at Canterra in the early 90s, she was a successful EA. Soon they were working together, and when Cameron opened his own oil and gas company, Sharon joined him.
And work was just the start of their adventure. They fell in love. They built a new home together. They plunged themselves fully into horses and polo, spending summers at the Calgary Polo Club and winters at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, CA. They got married. They tailgated. They traveled. They partied. And they collected friends wherever they went.
They purchased a home in Indio in the mid 2000s and Sharon loved her time in the desert. She enjoyed the fanfare and hard work that defined the polo lifestyle. She learned to ride, muck a stall, and how to pack a mean picnic basket. She took special care of her polo family – horses, dogs, grooms, pros and teammates – feeding and watering them on repeat throughout many seasons. Cameron and she also made special time for their dear neighbors and friends in Indio, hosting annual Christmas Eve and New Year celebrations. As Cameron wound down his time on the polo field, these friendships became the core of their California experience.
As her friends well know, Sharon was a social creature. She loved a party and a glass of chardonnay or two. She was an incredible flirt and not afraid to admit it. She had a naughty laugh and a smile that lit up a room. She loved her pets, her family and her friends. But most of all, she loved Cameron unconditionally. After 40 years by his side, these last six months were full of sadness. She is now with him again.
Grieving her loss is her sister Sue and husband Rob MacKenzie, stepdaughter Elizabeth Diggon and husband Kevan Hayes and their daughter Edith. She is also mourned by her special friends Susan and Craig Skogerson, Jan and Bruce Gordon, along with her cousins Red, Terry, Mike, Erin, and their wonderful families.
