Obituary of Kenneth Dyck
July 3, 1942 - December 31, 2024
Kenneth “Ken” Dyck, beloved husband of the late Barbara Dyck, passed away peacefully in Calgary, AB, on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at the age of 82 years.
Ken was born on July 3, 1942, in Manitoba. In 1964, Ken married the love of his life, Barb, and together they built a life centred on love, family, and adventure. They welcomed their first daughter, Reta, before moving to Calgary, AB, where their family grew with the births of Brenda and Kevin. Ken retired as Service Manager from Canadian Linen and Uniform Service in 2007.
Ken was a devoted father who raised his family in a nurturing and supportive environment. He was a Beaver and Scout Leader, a DeMolay Chapter Dad, a hockey Dad, a hockey Grandpa, and the #1 cheerleader at his children’s and grandchildren’s activities. His encouragement and enthusiasm were an inspiration to everyone around him.
Family was at the heart of Ken’s life, and many cherished memories were created on the family camping trips they took together. As the children grew older, Ken and Barb secured a seasonal spot at Leisure Campground at Pine Lake, AB, where they spent countless summers enjoying camping, creating unique projects, and forming lasting friendships. “The Lake” was a favourite place for their children and grandchildren to spend their summers.
Ken accomplished much throughout his life, but he was especially proud of his family. His favourite saying, “You can never spend my wealth,” reflected his belief that the greatest riches in life were found in time spent with loved ones.
He is survived by his children Reta (John), Brenda (Todd), and Kevin (Darla); his grandchildren Nicole (Adam), Richard (Sharice), Kimberly (Bradley), Jordan (Courtney), Krista-Lyn (Joshua), and Chelsea (Chase); as well as his precious great-grandchildren Jayden, Copelan, Hazelyn, Lennie, Winsley, Zachary, Meysa, and Sheplar. Ken is also survived by his sisters Velma (Tenho), Judy (Allan), Shirley (James), Lynn (Rick), Sharon, and Phyllis (Gord); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Barb; his parents, Diedrich and Matilda; and his brother-in-law, Bob.
The family would like to thank the staff of Unit 58 at South Health Campus, and a very special thank you to Dr. Annie Duan and Nurses Yayin and Wendy for their compassion and the wonderful care they provided to Ken.
Ken’s warmth, creativity, and love of life will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
