Obituary of Kenneth Earl Wood
September 19, 1940 – Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan
January 1, 2025 – Calgary, Alberta
It is with heavy hearts, that we announce the passing of Kenneth E. Wood, affectionately known as "Mr. Sociability," who departed this world on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at the age of 84 years.
Born on September 19, 1940, in Moose Jaw, SK, Ken was a man whose warmth and friendliness knew no bounds. He never met a person or animal he didn't like, and his genuine interest in others made him a beloved figure in every community he was a part of. His sociable nature and infectious smile brightened the lives of those around him, creating lasting impressions, and cherished memories for all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Ken had a profound love for airplanes. We don't know what came first—his love of planes or his career as an air traffic controller. Dad loved giving us the full rundown of every plane that flew over our heads. To this day a plane cannot fly over us, and we don't look up and wonder where it is going. His dedication and passion for aviation were evident in his 25 years of service. Afterward, he started the next adventure with his wife Sharon at Adventures in Bathing, Phoenix Marble, Total Plumbing, and any other entrepreneurial opportunity that came his way.
Ken and Sharon were married for 51 years before her passing in August 2013. Their marriage was one of equality in life and work. Working every day together, raising children together, and spending so much time together. When asked what they would have to talk about on those long drives to Arizona for the winter, Sharon would say, "I don't know but we talk the entire way and learn new things about each other."
He is survived by his two daughters, Melanie and Heather; his niece Julie Brose (Nadine), and his nephews, Trevor Jones and Kelly Brose (Andrea); who will forever hold him in their hearts. He was a pillar of strength and a source of unwavering support and love for his family, his legacy will live on through them.
In his leisure time, Ken enjoyed all things airplanes, golf, and art, and he always enjoyed going for a cup of coffee. His hobbies brought him joy and provided him with opportunities to share his enthusiasm and kindness with others.
If friends so desire, the family requests that memorial tributes may be made in Ken’s honour to The Alzheimer Society of Alberta and the Northwest Territories, Administrative Office, 10531 Kingsway Avenue, Edmonton, AB, T5H 4K1, Telephone: 1-866-950-5465, www.alzheimer.ab.ca or an animal organization of your choice.
