Obituary of Mike Schroeder

Michael Schroeder, beloved husband of Rhonda Neilson, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, January 3, 2025, at the age of 70 years.

Mike and Rhonda were married in 1978.

Besides his loving wife, Mike is survived by his twin brother Tom, son Noel (Kathleen), daughter Erica (Jeff), and his grandchildren, Teddy and Kai.

Mike graduated from the University of Calgary with a BSc Honours in Physics and received his MSc in Physics in 1981. During his career, Mike worked with Western Research, Jacques-Whitford, and finally StanTech, working as an Environmental Air Quality Consultant. He was also active in the Air & Waste Management Association.

When he was in his forties Mike was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and he worked hard to keep himself in shape so he could continue his career. With stubborn determination, he pushed himself every day. 

He enjoyed family vacations to Vancouver Island and the Okanagan. His hobbies included photography, singing, and listening to music, particularly Jazz, and Eric Clapton. He also enjoyed a “wee dram” of Single Malt Scotch at the end of the day.

At Mike’s request, a private celebration of his life will be held.
