Ed Dolny, age 93, beloved husband of 71 years to Wendy, passed away on Friday, January 3, 2025, in Calgary, Alberta, surrounded by loved ones.
Ed was born on April 12, 1931, in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. He was a skilled tradesman and graduated from the Department of Labour receiving his Journeyman's Status in auto mechanics. He was also a Millwright, certified welder, machinist, and a member of the 285 Legion. In his spare time, Ed enjoyed gardening, caring for birds, and spending countless hours reading newspapers and reviewing flyers. He dedicated an immeasurable number of hours to carefully selecting lottery numbers and horse racing bets, based on the meticulous algorithms he had developed for each. He was an enthusiastic traveller, and his thirst for new experiences led him to visit various places, including Spain, France, Switzerland, Germany, London, Hawaii, Arizona, Palm Springs, Las Vegas, and Mexico, to name a few.
Ed was a true jack of all trades, able to fix anything. He had a deep appreciation for sports, particularly golf, hockey, and football. He also never missed an opportunity to watch his grandchildren participate in their extra-curricular activities.
Ed will be remembered for his steadfast devotion to his family, his unwavering patience, his remarkable storytelling, and the wise advice he consistently offered. He took great pride in the life he built alongside Wendy and held a deep affection for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Ed was predeceased by his sons Gord and Rick, mother Rose, father Felix, and brothers Alvin, Ron and Barry.
Ed will be profoundly missed by his wife Wendy, his sons Gary (Brenda), Ray and Keith (Deb), his daughters Janice (Gerard) and Sandy (Harvey), daughter-in-law Kim Dolny, his sister Janet, as well as his twelve grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
