Michael Turner

Obituary of Michael Leonard Turner

August 23, 1953 – Montreal, Quebec

January 4, 2025 – Cochrane, Alberta

Michael Turner, beloved husband of Carmela Evangelista, passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at the age of 71 years.

Born in Montreal, QC, on August 23, 1953, Mike graduated from McGill University with a Certificate in Management. He worked for General Customs Brokers for over 30 years, starting as a mailroom runner, working his way up to management, and eventually becoming a partner in the brokerage firm.

In his free time, Mike was an avid traveller, often embarking on many memorable vacations with his family and friends. In his final year, he adventured on a cruise through South America with his wife, went on various family road trips to Jasper, AB, Waterton, AB, and Invermere, BC, and finally, a family trip back to his hometown of Montreal, QC. Throughout his life, he was fortunate to have explored much of Europe, Australia, North and South America, and even Southeast Asia.

Mike enjoyed golfing, cycling, cross-country skiing, hiking, and camping. Spending time outdoors made him the happiest. He had a passion for music, especially the classics, and loved reading novels and biographies.

He took joy in winemaking with friends and family for decades, eventually winning an award for one of his many wines. From his teen years onwards, he loved driving around in his “sporty” cars, be it his Toyota Supra, Pontiac Trans-Am, Honda Prelude, and most recently, his BMW convertible.

Some of Mike’s fondest memories were spending time with his family, especially getting to know his three grandchildren, Charlie, Sophie, and Ella. He was a dedicated member of the Lions Club of Canada, serving as treasurer in Wellington, ON. He also served as the secretary for his local condo board in Cochrane.

Mike will always be remembered for his love of the outdoors, travel, and music, but most notably for being a kind, patient, supportive, and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Mike is survived by his wife, Carmela, his son Evan (Jessica), his daughter Stephanie (Caolan), his brother Gerald (Louise), and his three grandchildren Charlie, Sophie, and Ella.

He was predeceased by his mother, Margaret Young, and his father, Leonard Turner.
