Obituary of Marlene Alma Monilaws

Marlene Monilaws passed away suddenly and gently with her immediate family at her side on Saturday, January 4, 2025, in Calgary, AB.
Born in 1950 to Murray and Wilma Monilaws, she completed their family along with older sister Valerie.
With a large extended family including many cousins, aunts, and uncles, family was a strong theme that carried her throughout her life. Faith was a guiding pillar for Marlene. As part of a founding family at Renfrew United Church, she was engaged in the church for its entire history until its recent closure. She brought this same passion and commitment to her newly adopted church community at St. David’s United Church.
Community was another important aspect of Marlene’s life. She was an active member of Jaycees Calgary and the square dance community. A highlight for her was when she danced in the opening ceremonies of the ’88 Winter Olympics. She was incredibly proud of her involvement in the Confederation Park 55+ seniors’ group. Throughout these communities, she left her mark and made many friends.
She is survived by her sister Valerie and her husband Alex White, niece Ashlie White, nephew Kyle and his wife Kristie White, and great-niece and nephew, Cadie and Eddie.
Marlene was predeceased by her parents and many of her extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A Celebration of Marlene’s Life will be held at St. David’s United Church (3303 Capitol Hill Cres. NW, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 1:00 p.m.
Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Ms. Monilaws’ service streamed live on the day of the service (see link below).
