Obituary of SITTING EAGLE

SITTING EAGLE, Edwin George (Poh Ka pii nii – Small eyes) April 3, 1969 – Bassano, AB October 9, 2013 – Calgary, AB It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dad, son, brother, uncle, nephew who went Home to be with our Lord Jesus Christ. Edwin Sitting Eagle beloved husband of Ruby Sitting Eagle (nee Starlight) of Siksika Nation, AB passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at the age of 44 years. In his early years Edwin was a member of the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association, was trained and mentored by the Johanson Brothers (Bull Riding Champions) and NFR qualifiers. Edwin, at age 14, was also a buffalo rider, a fancy dancer who won numerous championships, a hoop dancer, and danced at Grandstand Stage to promote the 1988 Winter Olympics, a hockey player, and cross country runner. He was adopted by the late Bill and Ann Wesley and also the Left Hand family from Eden Valley. Edwin is survived by his loving wife Ruby of 26 years; his children, Cash (Carlin), Eugene (August), Roman, Dhillion, Sarceena, Jewel, Malika, Shikila, Onesimus, Piase, Lennie and Vinnie; a precious granddaughter Serenity; his parents Gerald and Laura; special mother-in-law Ruth Starlight; brothers, Hutch (Pam), Tony (Audrey), Adrian, Ricky and Curtis; sisters, Olivia, Cheryl (Mick), Sandra (Radford), and Vivian (Richard); his special brother Travis Calf; great-uncles Albert Many Bears, Art Yellow Fly, George Cardinal (Rachel), and Leonard Solway (Nadine); great-aunties, Cecile Many Guns, Cecilia Many Heads, and Donna French; uncles Ryan (Annette), Gerald (Myrna), Joe (Joyce), and Francis; aunties, Doreen (Oliver) Jerry, Roberta Pelletier, Josephine, Georgina, Ann Marie (Leonard), Anne (Errol), Bunny, and Delia (Harley). He is also survived by extended families, Jerry, Leather, Running Bird, Black Kettle, Rabbit Carrier, Calf Robe, Spring Chief, Weasel Head, Scalplock, Crow Chief, Poor Eagle, White Calf, Swindlers, Big Child, Red Calf, Weasel Moccasin, Standing Rock, Windy Boy, Running Rabbits, and Duck Chiefs. He was predeceased by his parents John and Priscella SE; grandparents Simon and Mary SE, Philip and Lily MB, and Paul and Josephine Weasel Head; his daughter Star Sun Walk; brothers Alton SE, Stewart SE; sister Hilary; uncles John, Roy, George, Andy, Jaye, Gabriel, Wallace, and Marcel; aunties Clara, Shirley, Connie, Pauline and Dorothy. Wake Services will be held at the residence of Ruby and Edwin Sitting Eagle (Tsuu T’ina Nation, AB) on Sunday, October 13, 2013 and Monday, October 14, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church (Tsuu T’ina Nation, AB) on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Little Washington Cemetery (Siksika Nation, AB).
