Obituary of Esther Elizabeth Elliott

July 2, 1935 – Breton, Alberta

May 7, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Esther Elliott (nee Mills), beloved wife of the late Walter Elliott, of High River, AB, passed away peacefully in Calgary, AB on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at the age of 88 years.

Esther was the third daughter of John and Harriet Mills, born on July 2, 1935, near Breton, AB.  Esther lived and raised her family in the Columbia Valley (Invermere, Windermere, and Cranbrook, BC) until the mid-90s when she and Walter returned to Alberta to retire in High River.

Esther loved her family above everything else in her life.  She stayed home to raise her family and took great pride in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, eagerly sharing the stack of photos kept in her wallet or the large display of frames in her living room.  Esther loved and cared for many pets and was always happiest with a cat on her lap. She was well known for her particular nature; she believed in the importance of order and had a keen eye for detail, ensuring everything was kept tidy and in its place at all times.

For those who knew her well, Esther will be fondly remembered for her sharp sense of humour, her passion for sports, her love of camping and gardening, and her strong preference for Hawkin’s Cheezies.

Esther is survived by her son Douglas (Cindy) Elliott, seven grandchildren, Shawna, Gregory, Julie, Adam, James, Cory, and Anastacia; and eleven great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband Walter, daughter Susan, sons, Richard and Dale; parents, John and Harriet; and her five siblings, Ruth, Isabel, Jack, Ilene, and Gordon.

A private family gathering will be held at the Blackie Cemetery in late July.

Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Esther’s family here.
