Obituary of Robert Stuart Lane

September 8, 1939 - Toronto, Ontario

December 16, 2021 - Calgary, Alberta

Robert (Bob) Lane passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 16, 2021, at Providence Care Centre in Calgary. During his last days he was surrounded by family, friends, and the dedicated care workers at Providence.

Born in Toronto, ON, Bob moved to the Princeton, Oxford County area of Ontario when he was twelve years old. Bob and Marilyn met in Woodstock, ON, and lived in Burlington, ON (twice), Winnipeg, MB, and Calgary, AB before settling in Calgary. Bob had a 25-year career with Firestone Canada, starting after he graduated from Woodstock Collegiate high school until 1983 when he left to form Blaskin & Lane Tire Centres in Calgary. Bob also served on the Board of Directors of the Better Business Bureau of Southern Alberta.

Bob was known to his many friends as an avid golfer – his hole-in-one photographs from Priddis Greens were always proudly on display. Bob served as the first President of Priddis Greens Golf and Country Club. Golf was a life-long passion that he shared with his entire family.

Bob is survived by his wife Marilyn Ann Lane (nee Bailey). Bob and Marilyn were married for 61 years. Together they shared a lifetime of family adventures including golf, camping, and RVing and they have enjoyed many fulfilling years of travel and enduring friendships. They have been members of the Gyro Club of Calgary for 20 years – Bob served as President in 2005/06 – and greatly value their Gyro friendships. Bob was an enthusiastic sports-fan and attended countless Flames and Stampeders games.

Together, Bob and Marilyn had three children, Timothy Stuart Lane (Gail Clark-Lane), Gregory Robert Lane (Diana Lane), and Barbara Ann Osmak (nee Lane) (Glenn Osmak), all residing in Calgary.

Bob is survived by his many grandchildren who adored their Grandpa, Erin Pate (Jason Pate), Joelle Buye (Brett Buye), Jonathon (Jack) Lane (Erin Gellhaus), Rachael Dykshoorn (Andrew Dykshoorn), Bethany Lane, Benjamin Lane, Mikaela Osmak (Adam Mallaley), Jacob (Jake) Osmak; and great-grandchildren, Reyah Herauf, Beau Buye, Nova Buye, Everett Dykshoorn and Jordan Dykshoorn. He is also survived by brothers-in-law, Paul Steven Bailey (David Fotheringham) and Kenneth Terry Bailey (Linda Bailey) and leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Bob was predeceased by his father and mother, John Campbell (Jack) Lane and Dorothy Eleanor Lane (nee Castle) and his brother Edward William (Ted) Lane (Judy Lane).

Over the past weeks many have remarked that Bob will be remembered most as “a good man” – a husband, father, coach, mentor, and friend. Rest in peace.
