WAREMAN, Wilhelmina (Willy) Petronella Maria
April 6, 1927 – November 15, 2019

Willy Wareman of Calgary, Alberta, passed away on Friday, November 15, 2019 at the age of 92 years.

Willy was born in Nymegen, Holland on April 6, 1927.  She attended Catholic grade school in Nymegen during the German and Allied occupations of Holland during World War II.  As a child she was active in many sports, her favourite being basketball.

While working in the Dutch Government Health Care office, Willy attended the local University and graduated with a degree in Bachelor of Business.

In 1960, Willy married John Wareman and later joined him in Canada. Upon moving to Calgary, Willy worked for many years as a bookkeeper at the Father Lacombe Nursing Home.  After her children were born, she continued to work part-time.  After moving to their own home in Haysboro, Willy worked full-time until her retirement in 1987.

Willy enjoyed creating many different crafts including knitting, macramé, needlepoint, plastic canvas creations and sewing. After retirement, Willy kept active with aquacise and Thai Chi through her Community Hall.  She also enjoyed events at the Haysboro Seniors Association.

In her later years, Willy delighted in returning annually to Holland to visit her extended family and also enjoyed Wareman family vacations to Mexico and Hawaii.  During Willy’s travels she also journeyed to many areas of the world including Alaska, southern Europe and the Caribbean.

Willy loved to spend time with her family which prompted many family get togethers and meals.  She expressed her happiness on each occasion with her special treats she made for each of us and her enthusiasm in hearing about everyone’s lives. Willy enjoyed engaging old and new friends in conversation, even though her English was sometimes liberally sprinkled with Dutch words and rhymes.

She will be most remembered for her willingness to participate in any adventure with her family, love of ice cream, good health and especially, love of her family.

Willy is survived by her children, Michael (Shari) Wareman of Olds, AB and Yvonne (Mark) Dicosimo; grandchildren, Richard (Mikaela) Dicosimo and Christina Dicosimo; and great-grandchilden, Aria and Quinn Dicosimo all of Calgary, AB.
