March 28, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

William (Bill) Sherbinin of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at the age of 78 years.

Bill was born in Trail, BC, on January 4, 1945, and grew up in the community of Genelle, BC. After graduating from J. Lloyd Crow Senior High School in Trail, BC, Bill attended BCIT’s Court Reporting Program, which led him into a very successful career as a respected court reporter. Bill paved the way for himself as a young entrepreneur working in various communities throughout British Columbia such as Vancouver and Prince George. He quickly settled in Calgary, AB, and made it his home for the remainder of his life. Bill worked in the Provincial Court system opened a successful and well-known Court Reporting Company in downtown Calgary where he had numerous employees.

In addition to his Court Reporting business, Bill purchased and maintained several rental properties in Calgary. He was handy and able to fix the issues on site, and at the same time developed bonds with his long-term tenants who valued him as a trusted landlord.

Bill was a quiet, confident, and kind man who had an impact on everyone he met. Bill had a very sharp intellect and an astute emotional intelligence to match. In addition to his savvy business smarts he could speak well about almost any topic and throw in humour to lighten the mood. Bill was a history buff who could rattle off anything about World Wars and was very fond of the poems of Robert Service.

In his leisure time Bill enjoyed sports and excelled at softball and baseball; he even coached as an adult. Bill skied and golfed for pleasure and had the privilege of living in the home he designed and built that backed onto the Silver Springs golf course in Calgary, AB. Bill enjoyed travelling and exploring new cultures, many of which he was able to do through work travel. He travelled through North America in a large motor home with his family, and his very favourite city was New Orleans. Bill also had an interest in fixing up old cars.

Bill is survived by his two sisters and brother-in-law, Cathy Wishloff (Sam), and Ruth Makortoff, his stepdaughter Arlene, his nieces Cheryl, Leona, and Lisa; and his nephew Bernie. Bill was predeceased by his son Kristopher, parents Alex and Tina Sherbinin, and brother-in-law Peter Makortoff.

We will always feel his love and he will be greatly missed.

We love you, Bill.
