Obituary of Steven Panya

Yow Chong 'Steven' Panya, who was a beloved son, brother, uncle, born year of the Tiger, and friend to all, passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2023, 4:47 a.m. at the early age of 36 years. 

Yow-Chong was born in Edmonton, AB, at Royal Alex Hospital and grew up in the neighborhood of Abbottsfield, where he attended Abbott elementary with cousins (honorary brothers) Kenneth, and Dennis Tong. Steven attended Highlands Junior High and graduated from Eastglen High Composite High. Received his bachelor’s in commerce specializing in Supply Chain at Grant MacEwan. Steven started his career at Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. in Fort McMurray, AB, and then transferred to Calgary, AB.

Steven loved to eat and try new foods, and he enjoyed cooking yummy food for his loved ones. He loved to vacation on beaches like Huntington, San Diego, and even Phuket, but especially Cancun! 555 Steven liked challenging hikes to new places discovering the tranquil parts of this world. He also loved to marvel in the wonder of ocean life, especially fish. Anything Zen was his thing.

He is survived by his Confucius like father, Boun-Hom Panya, home chef mother, Douangmany Panya, creative sister Ching-ling Panya, and his two rambunctious nephews, Kingston, and Jordan Lee; as well as numerous cousins, and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre St. N, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
