Obituary of Juliane CHARRETT

April 6, 1955 – January 7, 2012 After a long and arduous battle with cancer, Juliane Charrett is now at peace at the age of 56. Greatly assisted in recent years by her husband John, her eldest son Christopher and his wife Cindy; strengthened by the distant love from her two younger children, Catherine and Anthony; cared for by a close group of friends, her outstanding oncology team and wonderful support staff, Juliane fought harder than any of us could have imagined and wow, did she ever endure. Juliane loved life. She was a fighter and an achiever from the start. Born in Egypt to Ezzat and Aida Chaker, raised in Montreal alongside her brother Simon, Juliane made her way to Calgary in 1976. She established herself professionally in the field of risk management; working in oil and gas and owning her own company, Ricon International, for ten years. She sat on the board of SARIMS, earned her CGA and MBA and further packed her schedule with teaching, accounting and volunteering; Juliane left her mark. Her spirit and aptitude to excel in her career did not supersede, in any way, her remarkable knack for being a superb wife and fantastic mother. After meeting in a dance class, John and Juliane were married and shortly thereafter gave birth to three children, Christopher, Catherine and Anthony, of whom she was always extremely proud. Juliane managed her family with overwhelming love and patience; from the unrelenting presence at hockey and soccer games, to late-night homework and advice sessions, to fabulous Sunday dinners, mom and wife never faltered. The family was inspired by Juliane’s love for travel; they enjoyed countless trips over the years, a passion that is now shared by her children. Juliane gave so much to the people who knew her, in the way of advice, strength and optimism, while Juliane herself remained humble to these characteristics. Her smile, her frankness, her wit and compassion will be greatly missed by friends and extended family, both here in Calgary and back in Montreal. Juliane was ‘One of a Kind’, and while her absence will be sorely felt, the gifts she granted will be forever rejoiced. Please join us in remembering Juliane through a visitation at the McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Friday, January 13, 2012 from 5:00 p.m., vigil prayer at 7:00 p.m. and celebrating her life with a Funeral Mass, at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church (1600 Acadia Drive S.E.) on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. This will be followed by a reception where friends and family will be invited to offer tribute to the life of this most special woman, wife, mother and friend.
