Obituary of Lorne Thomas NELSON

April 24, 1930 – January 1, 2012 Lorne Thomas Nelson of Calgary passed away peacefully on the early morning of Sunday, January 1, 2012 at 81 years of age. Lorne was born in Saskatoon on April 24, 1930. He was a graduate of the University of Manitoba in Architecture. He also studied law at the University of Alberta and was admitted to the Bar in 1959. His diverse education and experience included several accomplishments: homes, office buildings, Hi-Rise towers, multi family units and unique projects like the Bear pit at the Winnipeg Zoo. As he eased into retirement, he refused to sit still and combined his knowledge of architecture and the law by producing technical operational documentation for Syncrude Canada. Most recently he took great joy in renovating the home in which he lived until his death on Sunday. He is survived by his loving wife Mona, his children Peter and his wife Carmela Nelson, Harvey Nelson and partner Tanyss Horsley, Jeffrey and Susan Nelson; stepchildren Joe and Renata Kolbus, grandchildren Kelly, Erica, Jenna and Serena Nelson and Victoria Kolbus-Lubenow; sister Madelene and her husband Al Gray; niece Nancy and her husband Bill Scott. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Name Catholic Church (2223 – 34th Street S.W.) on Friday, January 6, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
