Obituary of Donald William HUNT
March 7, 1924 – December 28, 2011
Donald W. Hunt, born in Calgary on March 7, 1924, passed away on Wednesday, December 28, 2011. He was raised in Edmonton with his twin sister Doreen, sister Pauline and brother Jack. He served in the Air Force during the war for three years as a radar operator in Newfoundland. Upon discharge from the Air Force Service for an additional three years. He then returned to university where he graduated with his Bachelor of Education Degree and began his teaching career. He taught in several small towns around Alberta before settling in Calgary where he taught with the Calgary Catholic School Board at Bishop Grandin High School until his retirement in 1979. Summers were spent at Shuswap Lake Where he could be found golfing at the crack of dawn, fishing on the lake, taking people for a ski on the water or visiting friends and neighbors.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Florence, his son Lee, daughters Laurel and Leslie, son-in-law Bryan and granddaughter Deanna. He is predeceased by his daughter Meghan, twin sister Doreen, and brother Jack.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (1307 – 14th Street S.W.) on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at 2:00 p.m.
