Obituary of George Edward OLIVIER
December 16, 1933 – December 19, 2011
George Olivier passed away with his family by his side after a long courageous struggle with his illness.
George was born in Taltson River, NWT and attended St. Joseph’s Residential School in Fort Resolution. He spent many of his younger years trapping with his father where he gained an appreciation for the great outdoors. At 19, he began rock drilling and blasting, this became his career for nearly 50 years. George was a caring hard-working man who was deeply devoted to his wife and children.
He will be fondly remembered and missed by the love of his life and wife of 50 years, Isabel, his children Karen (Dan) Dumont, Yvonne Olivier (Larry White) , Georgia (Blair) Handel, Yvette (Darcy) Zentner, Michelle Olivier(Joe DaCunha), Lisa (Jason) Lintner, Michelle Crowchief and Michael Crowchief (Nora Big Plume), his 37 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, sister-in-law Alma P. Youngman, numerous nieces and nephews and his faithful dog Muffin. George was predeceased by his parents Napoleon and Alice, his sisters Yvonne, Alice and Beatrice, his brother Paul and daughter Faye Ann.
Family and friends are invited to attend Prayers at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Dr. SW) on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Name Catholic Church (2223 – 34th Street S.W.) on Thursday, December 22, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
