Obituary of Verna Gladys WARRINER

October 13, 1922 – December 15, 2011 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Verna Gladys Warriner. She quietly passed away in her sleep on Thursday, December 15, 2011 at the McKenzie Towne Long-Term Care Residence in Calgary, Alberta at the age of 89 years. She was the beloved and cherished wife of 67 years to Gordon Edward Warriner who passed away at Calgary on January 30, 2010. A devoted and loving mother to three sons Gordon (Beverly), Gregory and Ross, eight grandchildren Kedar (Karen), Genevieve, Reid (Stamatina), Kevin (Jennifer), Jennifer (Glen), Steffanie (Aaron), Andrea (Paul) and Sarah Lynn, eight great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Verna was predeceased by her brother Lorne Hill of Toronto in 1990. Born in Hamilton, Ontario on October 13, 1922, Verna was an ardent sports person and in her early years she was very active in speed and synchronized swimming. Later in life, she enjoyed curling at the Glencoe Club and golfing at the Calgary Golf and C.C. Dancing was of special pleasure to Verna and her loving husband Ed. Throughout their lives together, Verna and Ed travelled extensively worldwide. Verna especially enjoyed boating across Canada with Ed and their three sons. Verna lived her life with dignity and courage. She had a gracious manner, a loving smile and enjoyed a wide range of friends and relatives worldwide. Verna had a good sense of humour and experienced a glorious journey of love and friendship throughout her marriage with Ed. She especially enjoyed their winter home in Florida, particularly when shared with their many friends and family members. Verna’s thoughtfulness and concern for others will always be remembered in our hearts and memories. The family would like to extend a special thanks and appreciation to Doctors Dr. Fred Moriarty, Dr. Annie Yau, Dr. R.J. Herget, Dr. B. Simmons, Dr. Mark Sosnowski, the doctors nurses and staff at Rockyview Hospital, the staff of the Calgary Health Region Homecare, Caregiver/Companion Valerie Theoret and the staff, residents and caregivers at each of the McKenzie Towne Retirement Residence, Carewest Dr. Vernon Fanning Center (2 West Unit) and McKenzie Towne Long Term Care Residence.
