Obituary of May Louise HAMBROOK

May 5, 1909 – December 5, 2011 We are sad to announce that May passed away peacefully on Monday, December 5, 2011 at the age of 102. May was born in a small Ontario town, raised on a farm along with her 3 brothers and 2 sisters. In 1925 at the age of 16 she married Mark Hambrook. They moved west eventually settling in Calgary to raise their 9 children. In the 1940’s they built a home in Tuxedo where May remained for near 70 years. She worked for a short time in the kitchen of the Palliser and later drove a school bus and taxi. May loved fast cars and owned a few over the years including a 65 Mustang and 69 Camaro. This love of speed and these cars earned her the nick name amongst her family of “Hot Rod Granny.” Some of May’s other interests included playing bingo, the slot machines at the casino, and she was always up for a game of cards or dice with anyone who would play. May’s witty personality and sense of humour remained with her right up until her last days. She regaled not only family and friends but also the caregivers at her nursing home with stories of her past and made them laugh with her jokes. May was predeceased by her husband Mark, sons John and Lorne as well as daughters, Gladys and Audrey. She leaves behind 5 children, and many many grand, great-grand and great-great-grandchildren. She loved and was loved passionately by many and while she will be missed greatly, her legacy and influence will live on for generations. Look Around Your Garden, Lord Look around your garden, Lord She won’t be hard to find She has a face that’s full of love A heart that’s good and kind She was always there for us, Lord And never made a fuss Place a kiss upon her cheek And tell her it’s from us. A special thank you to the wonderful caring staff at Beverley Centre Midnapore.
