Obituary of Dr. David Fowler, PhD
February 11, 1924 – December 5, 2011
Rev. Dr. David Summers, beloved husband of Margaret (Peggy) Summers of Calgary, passed away on Monday, December 5, 2011 at the age of 87 years.
David was born in Alberta and educated in Saskatchewan and Scotland. He was ordained in the United Church and ministered to a number of parishes in Saskatchewan, Ontario and Alberta. His strong belief in fairness and the value of an ecumenical approach led to his life-long commitment to and involvement in social justice and international development through his work in Canada, Africa, and the Caribbean. His deep religious beliefs coupled with his acceptance of all individuals and faiths and his absolute willingness to help anyone in anytime in any way means that he will be sorely missed.
Besides his loving wife of sixty-two years, David is survived by three daughters and a son, Isabel McNab (Gordon), James Summers (Brenda Fischer), Effie Sparkhall (Kevin) and Joan Summers; eight grandchildren, Kari Fuller (Matt), Robert Fischer-Summers, Jennifer Fischer-Summers (Neil Hitchcock), Lisa Fischer-Summers, David Sparkhall, Kate Sparkhall, Michael Fischer-Summers, Kailin Summers; and a great-granddaughter, (Desirae Hitchcock). He is also survived by his sister Laura Grant. David was predeceased by his brother Arthur Summers.
Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.
