Obituary of Teodosia Darka GOLEBIOWSKI

February 7, 1927 – December 5, 2011 Teodosia (“Darka,” “Baba” or even “Doris” to some) Golebiowski of Calgary passed away peacefully at Extendicare Hillcrest on Monday, December 5, 2011 at the age of 84. Born in western Ukraine, she left her family and war-torn homeland at a young age and with unwavering faith in God and amazing courage, immigrated alone to Canada in 1947. She settled in Calgary where she embraced the Ukrainian Catholic Church parish and community, met and married Ivan (John) and started a family and new life. She is survived by her daughter Irene (Scott Leyland); son Walter (Sharon); grandchildren, Orest, Mike (Lynn), Laura and Steven; great-grandchildren, Brandon, Marissa and Taylor; as well as numerous relatives in Ukraine. She was predeceased by her husband Ivan; her parents; and her four siblings. She often said that she had been lucky all her life but it is also us that were blessed and we deeply miss her. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church (729 – 6th Street N.E.) on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church (729 – 6th Street N.E.) on Thursday, December 15, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
