Obituary of Estelle PARADIS

August 28, 1912 – November 27, 2011 Estelle passed away peacefully at Father Lacombe Care Centre on Sunday, November 27, 2011 at the age of 99 years. Estelle was born to Maxime Bourgoin and Eva Gagnon in Cabano, Quebec and she spent a happy childhood in Squatec, Quebec. After her father died in 1918, her mother remarried Joseph Gagnon and they moved to the west and settled in Val Marie, Saskatchewan. In 1932, Estelle married Emile Paradis before settling on their farm near Val Marie where they raised their family. They had some challenging but rewarding years growing wheat and raising cattle. In 1969, they retired to Calgary where they lived in their Haysboro home for many happy years. Estelle became very involved with the Franco-Canadian Society and wrote articles for the Franco-Alberta newspaper and the Haysboro Community Newspaper. She was proud to celebrate her 50th wedding anniversary with Emile in 1982. After Emile passed away in 1988, she continued to remain very active with her church and community and taking Tai-Chi with friends. She loved to garden and visit with numerous family and friends. Estelle is survived by her daughters Simone (Armand) Dumonceaux, Rolande (Ted) Piper and Lucille (Paul) LeCorre; sons, Paul (Terry), Roger (Bonnie), Claude (Judy), Guy (Linda); step sister Marguerite Eyjolfson, brother-in-law Luke Clement; thirty two grandchildren; fourty one great-grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Emile, sons Gilles and Roland; brothers Robert Gagnon, Jean (Johnny) Gagnon; sisters Rita Clement, Therese Creelman and Suzanne Bouchard. She will be missed by everyone who was touched by her friendliness and vivaciousness. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) on Friday, December 2, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Sainte-Famille (French) Catholic Church (1717 – 5 Street S.W.) on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at 12:30 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
