Obituary of Margaret Kathleen COLVIN

October 15, 1917 – November 23, 2011 With love and sadness we announce the passing of Margaret Kathleen Colvin on November 23, 2011. Marge aka Nana was born on a farm 11 miles outside Burdett, AB on October 15, 1917. Nana was the second youngest of 13 children. Nana is survived by daughter Darlene (Harry) Guenther and son Billy (Sharon) Colvin. Nana has six grandchildren, Marnie, Todd, Carrie, Troy, Dallas and Denver and six great-grandchildren, Zachary, Crystal, Nikki, Alicia, Brandon and Cole. Nana was predeceased by her husband Daniel Sr. and her son Daniel Jr. In Nana’s younger years, her love for dancing was apparent everywhere she performed. Her talent lead her to perform in trendy places such as the Army and Navy Club, the Fairmont Palliser Hotel and various venues across town. Nana was a lady in every respect and she was always looking her best. She took so much pride in her appearance and dressed for every occasion. She loved her retail sales job and did not want to retire at 67. She cared deeply for her customers and the people she worked with. Living for almost a century, Nana had seen so many changes and adapted without hesitation. Nana’s love came through with her exceptional baking which spread a goodness that united the family and everyone who sampled it. Nana’s love of sports brought her many years of entertainment. She was passionate about hockey (Calgary Flames – always a supporter), baseball (New York Yankee’s) and everything from curling to darts. Her knowledge of sports was evident in every conversation. It surprised everyone just how vast her comprehension really was. Her natural skill and willingness to participate in any sport lent her to try new activities. Nana loved her bingo and pulling Nevada tickets while sharing time with her friends. One of her cherished holidays was when Darlene and Harry took her to Laughlin, NV. where she was totally in her element in the casino. We were blessed to have such a strong caring loving understanding women with such a zest for life. When raising her children on 14th Ave, she had an open door policy and took in siblings and their children, grandchildren, friends and eventually taking in her mother (Carrie) for the remainder of her life (9 years). Nana took great pleasure in watching her children grow into parents and pass on the same precious love that she had given them. It was very important that she not only new her grandchildren, but took an active role in their daily lives. Nana’s love made us feel special by always putting her family first and making sure everyone was looked after with no expectations in return. She always had a kind word for new acquaintances, the love she spread was contagious. Mother – another name for love. You cared for everyone and most important the happiness of your family. You were the greatest treasure anyone could ever have – a designer of love. You were our teacher, our confidant and our friend, but most importantly, you were and always will be our Hero. Your compassion and understanding for life, your family and friends, comes from your wonderful soul.
