Obituary of YELLOW FLY
July 6, 1930 – November 22, 2011
We are saddened by the passing of our Father, Uncle, Brother, Grandfather and Elder Ernest Yellow Fly on Tuesday November 22, 2011, at the age of 81 years.
Ernest was born on the Siksika Nation and raised on the family ranch. He will be remembered for his kindness, patience, generosity and love for his family. Ernest participated in various sports and activities throughout his life, and played hockey with the Calgary Jr. Buffalos, he also played with the original Blackfoot Braves. He resided at the Drumheller Continuing Care Facility for many years.
Ernest is survived by his sons Barry, Alvin (Delia), Trent (Marion), Curtis, Eddy (Karen) and daughter-in-law Michele; twenty-eight grandchildren; forty-eight great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren; sister Virginia Medicine Traveller, brothers Arthur, and Noel; numerous nieces and nephews; many traditional adopted families; numerous relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Celina; parents Jane and Teddy Yellow Fly; daughter Cheryl Bull; sons Ricky, and Dale; sister Emma; brothers Gordon, Kenneth, and Percy (Cecile); grand children Sherri, Arlan, Kim and Honey (Amber); sisters-in-law Teresa, and Marina; and his only brother-in-law Allan Medicine Traveller. The family would like to thank Dr. Moshood (Family Doctor), Dr. Olfert (Emergancy Doctor), Drumheller Continuing Care Staff and the community for all prayers, donations, kindness and words of encouragement and care. The family apologizes for anyone they may have missed.
Wake Services will be at the Gordon Yellow Fly “PIIKSA-PI” Memorial Arbour on Friday, November 25, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at the Gordon Yellow Fly “PIIKSA-PI” Memorial Arbour on Saturday, November 26, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Canon Stockton Cemetery.
