Obituary of Eileen Theresa SMILEY

January 8, 1925 – November 15, 2011 Eileen Theresa Smiley of Calgary, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at the age of 86 years. Eileen was born January 8, 1925 in Shaunavon, SK. She married Bill Smiley October 21, 1949 in Calgary where she resided the rest of her life. In 1943- 1944 she served with the Canadian Armed Services. Eileen became a registered nurse and graduated from Holy Cross Hospital in 1949. She was a member with the St Bernadette’s Roman Catholic Church and volunteered with the CWL, Ogden House and Heritage Park. She was devoted to her family, community and country. Eileen was a strong supporter of World Vision, Mustard Seed, Canadian Diabetes Association, and Canadian Heart and Stroke. One of her most memorable moments was square dancing at the opening of the Calgary Winter Olympics in 1988. Eileen is survived by her son Don Smiley of Ottawa, daughters Diane (Derek) Pyne of Sherwood Park, AB, Darlynn (Jim) Courage of Calgary, four grandchildren Janice, Graham, Kevin, and Alex, and two great-grandchildren Daxton and Aaralynn. She is also survived by her brother Joe Fritz and two sisters Maureena Fritz and Kathy Arsenault. She was predeceased by her husband Bill, brothers Gerry and Frank and sisters Mary and Theresa. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church (7103 – 20A Street S.E.) on Friday, November 18, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
