Obituary of Dennis William KNAPIK

August 26, 1923 – November 10, 2011 Dennis, loving husband to Pauline, passed away on Thursday, November 10, 2011 after 88 wonderful years. His loving memory will continue with Pauline, daughter Kathryn (Paul Raphael), son Bernard, three granddaughters (Gabriella, Isabelle, and Daniella Raphael, all of London, England), three sisters Isabel, Evelyn and Edna, and brother Lenard. Dennis was predeceased by his sister Theresa. Dennis began his life in Broderick, Saskatchewan in 1923 where he lived on the farm until joining the RAF in 1943 at the age of 19. After receiving his navigator wings and becoming a flying officer, he was stationed in northeast India in transport squadron 435 providing air support to the British 14th Army in the fight against Japan. After the war he graduated from engineering at the University of Saskatchewan in 1950 and moved into geophysics, a profession he excelled in from the beginning. As he developed his expertise, he established his consulting firm and accepted calls for his work around the globe. Despite the professional success, it was his family life that he treasured the most. He met Pauline, his life-long love, and married her in February, 1962. Fatherhood followed with Bernard and Kathryn; a responsibility he relished to the end. Dennis will be missed by all who knew him; golfers from Earl Grey, curlers from the Glencoe Club, parishioners from St. James, his family, and close friends. A Funeral mass will be celebrated at St. James Catholic Church (5504 – 20 Street S.W., Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Pauline and the family welcome you to share your memories with them after the mass. They would also like to thank the medical staff of the Rockyview Hospital for their care and attention they provided Denis during the last seven months. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to the Developmental Disability Resource Centre (DDRC – 4631 Richardson Way SW, Calgary, T3E 7B7).
