It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness we announce the sudden passing of our beloved and adored husband, father, and grandad Bill on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at the age of 84 years.
Bill was born in Reading, England on May 16, 1934 and was predeceased by his parents Henry and Annie, and his sisters Kath, Win and Vera (Bobby). Cherishing his memory and wonderful life he spent with them, he is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years Beryl “June”, his son Graeme and his daughter Debbie “Deb,” his son-in-law Rob and his pride and joy of grandchildren Brittney and Eric. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, sisters and brothers-in-law in Reading, England.
Bill and June married in 1958 and immigrated to Calgary, Canada in 1959 where they settled down and fell in love with Calgary and immediately began their new life. Prior to moving to Canada, Bill enlisted in the Royal Air Force and completed his two years of National Service where he mastered the art of electronics. After arriving in Calgary, Bill began working with Admiral Canada as a TV and radio technician and quickly moved into a management position as he was very talented and took great pride and pleasure in fixing and repairing electronics. After a few years he was recruited to work for the City of Calgary Electrical Division where he worked until 1989, when he took early retirement due to suffering his first massive heart attack. During his retirement he enjoyed his time camping, bird watching in his garden, golfing, and spending quality time with his family, especially his treasured grandchildren.
Bill was a wonderful, gentle, warm- and kind-hearted man with the most positive attitude. He was always willing to help anyone and always loved to chat and tell stories. Bill loved his sports and was a loyal fan of the Calgary Flames and Stampeders and loved following his hometown Reading Football Club soccer team. Bill also coached and was a board member of the Chinook Soccer Club for many years. Bill’s biggest and most favorite hobby was his Ham radio. He spent countless hours every morning speaking on his Ham radio to his many friends all over the world, especially his friends from his home country England. Bill was an active member of the Calgary Communications Club and served as Treasurer Emeritus for 18 years until 2017. He made many wonderful lifelong friends from his Ham radio community and enjoyed his weekly Saturday morning coffee with his fellow local Hams.
