Obituary of Allan BERNFELD

Allan Bernfeld, age 80, passed away on Friday, November 4, 2011 after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his beloved wife Anne and by extended family members, Sari Shernofsky and Marvin Greenblatt, both of Calgary, along with relatives in Canada and the United States. He is also missed by his dear tabby cat Georgina. Allan and his twin brother Arthur (deceased in 2010) were born in Montreal, the sons of the late Clara Libbie and Dr. Benjamin Bernfeld. While attending McGill University, Allan’s interest in journalism was honed by working for the McGill Daily and he went on to report for, and edit, the Verdun Guardian newspaper in that Montreal suburb. He joined the public relations department of Canadian National Railways in 1955 and made that his career, working for major companies and PR firms in Montreal and Calgary. Volunteering was always a big part of Allan’s life; in fact, he met his wife while working on a federal election campaign in Montreal in 1968. In Calgary, Allan enjoyed volunteering at the Beverly Centre Glenmore, and the Braecentre Community Police Station. A Celebration of Allan’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Friday, November 11, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. You may forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
