Obituary of Brent Frederick MITCHELL

January 22, 1948 – October 28, 2011 Brent Mitchell of Calgary, passed away on Friday, October 28, 2011 at the age of 63 years. Brent was born in Edmonton and raised in Vancouver. He graduated from West Vancouver High, continuing on to receive a B.Sc. in Biochemistry from UBC. The highlight for Brent was a course in genetics taught by David Suzuki. After graduating he spent an adventurous year in Australia. He married Barbara Wallace in 1973, and they had three daughters, Sara Van Mulligen (Jeff); Jody Phillips (Jeremy and children Ruby and Sonja); and Erin Lyne (Matt and children Abby and Nora). Brent spent his entire career in the medical industry. His last position was at Clinicare as Marketing Manager, his favourite job largely because of the people. Brent was blessed with lifelong friends; the “six Amigos” Brent, Paul, Bruce, Mel, Butch and Chris. They met in high school and had a wonderful friendship through the years. Brent was very proud of his hole-in-one at the Capilano Golf Course in West Vancouver. Brent had a twinkle in his eye and a comment for each situation with the goal of inciting laughter, in short Brent was cheeky. He awoke with enthusiasm and looked forward to each day. He was a soul of constant good humour and the world of scotch has lost one of its most appreciative customers. Brent met Marcia in 2004. He had very fond memories of their adventures near Cabo San Lucas both on and off the beaten path. Brent became an important part of Marcia’s family and enjoyed the many family gatherings. He was predeceased by his father Fred and his sister-in-law Kathy. He will be deeply missed by his loving partner Marcia Runge (daughter Ali and partner Christopher), his mother, Eileen Mitchell, his brother Brian, the Roberts family and friends. A private family service will be held at a later date. The family is deeply grateful for the tender care that Sarcee Hospice gave Brent in his last months. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial donation in Brent’s memory may be made directly to the Sarcee Hospice (3504 – 29 Street S.W., Calgary, AB T3E 2L3).
