Obituary of Jean Clare YOUNG

August 20, 1923 – October 24, 2011 With heavy hearts and loving memories, our family announces the passing of our beautiful and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Jean Clare Young on Monday, October 24, 2011 at the age of 88 years. Jean was the middle of three daughters born to Walter and Anna Dobbin in Oyen, AB. Her father was one of the original Northwest Mounted Police. The family lived in many different towns in southern Alberta. At the age of nineteen, Jean joined the Royal Canadian Navy (WRENS) looking for adventure and meeting many lifelong friends while stationed in Halifax and Victoria. After the war, Jean met her darling Bill in Edmonton. Shortly after Bill Jr. was born they moved to Calgary and raised five more children. In 1983, Jean and Bill left Calgary and retired in Victoria. She returned to Calgary in 1993 much to her family’s delight and enjoyed numerous family gatherings over the years. Jean was such a gracious, affectionate lady, whose arms were always open to family and friends. She had a gift of making everyone feel welcome and loved. We miss you Mom! Left to mourn Jean’s passing are her children, Cate, Donna (Dave), Marg (Kelly), Bob (Cecile), Pete (Cindy); daughter-in-law Karen; sister Marie (Dr. J. Moreau); and brother-in-law Ed Helwick. Jean was also blessed with nine grandchildren and three-great-grandchildren. She was also sweet, adoring Auntie Jean to the Moreau, O’Byrne and Helwick families. She was predeceased by her loving husband Bill Sr. in 1986; sister Terry in 2002; and her son Bill Jr. in January of 2011.
