Obituary of Audrey Vesta COUTTS

March 6, 1923 – October 20, 2011 Audrey Vesta Coutts passed away at the age of 88 years on Thursday, October 20, 2011 at the Chinook Hospice after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. Audrey is lovingly remembered by her children; son and daughter-in-law Doug and Carol and daughter Kathie; grandchildren Ian and Shannon. She will be equally missed by her sister-in-law Alberta (Carl) Ehret; her special friend Tom Fitzgerald; numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends. Audrey was predeceased by her beloved husband Donald in March 1993. Audrey was born in Claresholm, Alberta and moved to Calgary in 1943 attending Henderson Business School. She met and married Don in 1948. Audrey worked as a secretary for various oil and gas and engineering firms and the University of Calgary, before switching to the Calgary Board of Education and finishing out her career in 1987 at her favourite school, Buchanan Elementary. Audrey loved to travel, square dance, round dance, tap dance and clog, attend dances at the Royal Canadian Legion, volunteering in Calgary and was a long time member of the Confederation Park Seniors Centre. She enjoyed being active and cherished the summer camping/water skiing trips with her family and various friends and relatives. She would surprise us with some new recreational endeavour, even took up golf in her 70’s. She loved to sew, knit, crochet, and practice calligraphy – her family, friends and their children were the lucky recipients of many of her professionally crafted projects. Audrey loved to laugh and was quick to share a joke or funny story – especially at special gatherings and dinners with family and friends. During her illness, Audrey showed great strength, spirit, courage and dignity. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. A Celebration of Audrey’s life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at 2:30 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to The Alzheimer Society of Calgary, Suite 201, 222 – 58th Avenue S.W., Calgary, AB T2H 2S3, Telephone: (403)290-0110, www.alzheimercalgary.com.
