Condolences
I did not know Howard well – but well enough to see his works of concern and compassion for fellow police officers and their families. When my father, George Morehouse, passed away, Howard was there before and after dad’s “departure”, to assist Helen with all the details in a kind and caring manner. He will be missed by many. Love & condolences from the Morehouse Family
My DEEPEST SYMPATHY, sorry I am unable to attend the service. Will see you sometime later

Athlyn we have spoken but I just wanted to share with you some additional thoughts about my memories of Howard. I will always think of him as one of the great guys. He was truly a genuine person and I greatly enjoyed his company. Early on in my career I remember meeting Howard with two of my uncles whom he had befriended. I came to admire and respect Howard during my career and later in life. He was always personable and genuinely interested in those he had contact with
We all enjoyed Howard’s company at the Retired Senior Officer luncheons and yearly Socials.
Lynda & I wish to express our heartfelt condolences to you Athlyn and the Leary family.
It is interesting how many times the word FAIR comes up when talking about Howard. From the time I joined Calgary Police in 1958, I always found Howard approachable, friendly and understanding. Howard never acted on impulse. His decisions were always very considered and FAIR. He was one of the most highly respected officers that I ever knew in RCMP and Calgary. I have kind thoughts of him and am glad to have worked under him. I am proud to have been one of his many friends. My sincere sympathy to the Leary family on the loss of a great man.
Dear Athlyn, Sandra and Dwight,
My deepest condolences to the Leary’s. It was always a pleasure to enjoy Athlyn and Howard’s company when they visited the Okanagan. His gentleness and quiet strength were evident. A true gentleman! To live in the hearts we leave behind is not to die. Sincerest sympathy…Athlyn. Take care. Marge Noble and Family.
So sorry to hear that Howard passed on. Howard and I became good friends in the days that I was a reporter in Police Court. My most sincere condolences to Howard’s family.
Athlyn, we are so sorry for your loss.

Athlyn, Sandra, Dwight & Family,
So very sorry to hear of your loss. Howard was a great friend to all of us. I have known him since I was a raw rookie in 1963. He treated us all with respect far greater than we deserved. No doubt you all will miss him. Howard has left us all with such great memories to treasure.
Sincerely, Len Esler

I have known Howard since 1958 when he was a staff sergeant with the City Police. He was always friendly and very fair regardless of the rank he hel, and was the most respected and Deputy Chief I ever worked under. In his later years he was a great supporter of the Police Veterans assn. and was well liked by all of the Police Vets who enjoyed his company. He will be missed, and Lina and I send our condolences to Athlene and all the family. Lina and Ron Tarrant
My condolences to Howard’s family. He lived a great life. As a police officer he was one of the best and treated everyone with dignity and respect. He will be missed in the police community.
Hi Athlyn. I’m deeply saddened by Howard’s passing. As a boss, he was considerate, kind and encouraging and so he also became my friend. Donna and I send our condolences to you and your family. May he rest in peace.

We are sorry to learn about Howard’s passing. Always a gentleman, a great individual and a credit to the police profession. I considered him to be one of my mentors. We are out of the country and will unfortunately miss his service. Condolences to Athlyn. Frank & Wollene
Howard and I had many discussions when I was an executive with the Calgary Police Association, I could always count on him being fair and compassionate and was to everybody a true gentlemen. I always remember him saying to me, when I was about to be given a written warning or worse “bring your mouthpiece” I didn’t bother as I knew his discipline would be just and equitable……and it was!
A wonderful boss and a true “mate” rest in peace my friend.

We are so sorry to hear of Howard’s passing, and want to express our sincerest condolences to Athlyn and family. Howard was a true GENTLEMAN, and a great friend to a young cop! He will be greatly missed, and it was a tremendous privilege to have known him, and worked for him. Charlotte and I will not be here for his service, but will think of him often. Jim & Charlotte Mathews
I am so glad I contacted Howard and Athlyn to reconnect with Howard’s daughter Sandra. We are both the only children/daughters of Calgary Police Officers that we were so proud of and raised to have a high regard for. Sandra and I shared many police Christmas parties together as well as our first place of employment after high school in Data Processing for the City of Calgary. I will attend the service in support of my friend and with fond memories of a kind gentleman.
