Obituary of Joyce June KUPCHAK

June 4, 1940 – October 13, 2011 With tremendous sadness the family announces the passing of beloved mother and grandmother Joyce, who passed away peacefully at the age of 71. Joyce was born in Plumas, MB, moving to Winnipeg with her family at the age of nine. She was active in the church youth group, bowling and curling clubs through her teens and twenties. Married to Harold Kupchak in 1963, Joyce had three daughters and moved to Calgary, AB in 1979. There Joyce forged many strong friendships that lasted through the rest of her life. Joyce dedicated her life to the role of mother and grandmother. Known to her six granddaughters as Grammy, Joyce was an integral and active part of their daily lives. Nothing made her happier than reading, cuddling or playing with her granddaughters. Joyce is fondly remembered as warm, welcoming, and social, with a good sense of humour and love for laughter. She was a mother figure to many neighbourhood children and friends of her daughters throughout the years. Joyce had a profound ability to love unconditionally and always put others’ needs before her own. Joyce was predeceased by her parents, Pauline “Lill” and Henry Smith. She is survived by her daughters, Alana (Michael) Park, Kristin (Jason) Usselman, and Paula (Emmanuel) Hall; six cherished granddaughters, Julianna and Carmen Park, Genevieve and Jocelin Usselman, and Eve and Violet Hall. She is also survived by her brother Ronald (Penny) Smith; nieces, Tannis and Shannon; and nephew Darren and their families. Joyce’s family would like to send their sincere thanks to the amazing staff at Carewest Sarcee Hospice for their nurturing and great care. The family also extends thanks to Pat McGuinness, and Doris and Harry Park for their ongoing support during this difficult time.
