Obituary of GIBSON-George Alfred

March 17, 1917– October 11, 2011 George Alfred Gibson of Calgary, passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at the age of 94 years. George was born in Calgary, Alberta on March 17, 1917. He received his education at Crescent Heights High School when William Aberhart was principal. He served his country overseas in WWII with the Royal Canadian Navy returning to Calgary where he met Mildred Fleming and they where married in 1949. They settled in Calgary where they raised their five children. George worked for many years with Imperial Oil as a Stationary Engineer. Mildred passed away in 1976. In 1983 George married Anne Kennedy. George was an active member of St. Andrews Anglican Church and the Royal Canadian Legion and also enjoyed square dancing. He was most proud of his volunteer time during the 1988 Olympics, and especially loved the winters spent in Mesa, Arizona. George’s family were of utmost importance to him. His grandchildren brought him great joy and he treasured every moment spent in their company. George is survived by his loving children, Margaret Gibson (Glenn Johanson), Kim Gibson (Shirley Cottick), Heather Myers and daughter-in-law Bev Fox. He is also survived by eighteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife Mildred, second wife Anne, sons Thomas and Roy, brother Alex and sisters Margaret and Effie. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Friday, October 14, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow in the Field of Honour, at Queens Park Cemetery.
