Obituary of Bruce Steve Stevenson MACGREGOR

June 19, 1935 – October 5, 2011 Steve passed away on Wednesday, October 5th at the age of 76 after a lengthy illness. He was born into a large family in Edinburgh, Scotland, on June 19, 1935. It was there that he met and, fifty-five years ago, on September 22, 1956, married the love of his life, Grace (née Grieve). With his having been ill many years before his death, it seems touchingly fitting that Steve left this world on Grace’s birthday. In March 1964, “the wanderlust was on him” and, with their three children in tow, Steve and Grace immigrated to Canada. Steve was always the life of the party and soon had a large circle of friends. You could often find him cooking steaks on his homemade brick barbecue while he entertained family and friends with his quick wit. His famous shindigs inevitably ended in a good ‘auld-country’ sing-song. Steve was an electrician by trade but a craftsman by nature. In later years, if you hired Macgregor Decorators there was no doubt you got the best. He was naturally athletic as a youth – a tireless swimmer, trained diver, ballroom dancing medallist, competitive snooker player, footballer, golfer, and mad cyclist. He was a freemason all his adult life, his first lodge having been No. 97, in Edinburgh. He thought of all men as his brothers, often quoting Burns’s “A man’s a man for a’ that.” Steve will be lovingly remembered by Grace; his sons, Tiree (Diane) and Callum (Lynda); and his daughter, who asked why he talked funny, Alexena (Tom). He is also survived by his ten grandchildren, Sarah-Faye (Anis), Kirsten, Dallas (Cheyenne), Deirdre (Michael), Morven, Callum, Ethan, Aidan, Ceitidh, and Emily; one great-grandson, Danyal; as well as numerous other kin. Special thanks to our good friend Nancy Norman for ALWAYS being there and to Dr. Catherine Heaton for her gentle bedside manner all these years! Steve requested that there be no funeral or memorial service. He will be cremated and his ashes returned to his beloved Scotland, where he will “greet the isles he loved the best.” Sláinte Mhath!
