Obituary of Matilda Gladys SCHMITKE

January 25, 1928 – September 28, 2011 We are sad to announce the passing of Gladys Schmitke (nee Kisch) on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at the age of 83 years. Gladys was a wife, mother, empathetic friend, and business partner, but most of all, a person we all admired. She was strong, courageous, generous, resourceful with an ability to create anything out of nothing, the “best cook ever”, fun-loving, a keen business person, hostess extraordinaire, passionate animal lover; having a special place in her heart for the horses, with both Her and Manny being very involved with harness racing; the resident farm dog over the years and ‘Mabel’, her 10 year old house cat. Gladys loved growing unusual plants and flowers. Her yard always stood out. She was the consummate people person, making many friendships and maintaining them over a lifetime. Also thanks to the staff on Unit 42 Peter Lougheed Palliative Care for making her comfortable. Gladys is survived by two sons, Warren of Calgary and Roger of Irricana; and one granddaughter Hayli. Gladys was predeceased by her loving husband Emmanuel (Manny); her sister Mabel; and her brother Paul. Two Celebrations of Glady’s Life will be held. One at the Cassils Community Centre, Brooks area on Sunday, October 23, 2011 from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. The second to be held at the Triwood Community Association (2244 Chicoutimi Drive N.W., Calgary) on Sunday, October 30, 2011 from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of the donor’s choice would be greatly appreciated. In living memory of Matilda Schmitke, a tree will be planted at Big Hill Springs Park Cochrane by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH Telephone: (403) 276-2296.
