Obituary of Jean Renee BLANK

June 30, 1917 – September 26, 2011 Jean Renee Blank passed away at the Foothills Hospital on Monday, September 26, 2011. Jean was born in the Hanna area, the second of six children of Rufus Aubrey Mac Cuish and his wife Mabel Hawkins. Rufus was one of the early ranchers in that area, arriving there in 1905. Jean obtained most of her education at the country school in that area. Jean left home to work in Calgary in 1941. In 1942 after taking a machinists course she moved to Hamilton, ON where she worked at the Westinghouse plant, which was engaged in the manufacture of weapons for the war effort. In December of 1942 she joined the Canadian Women’s Army Corp. After basic training, she was stationed in London, ON for the duration of the war. Following her discharge from the army in 1946, she took a stenographic course and worked in several locations in Calgary. She married John (Jack) Arthur Blank in 1949, they lived in Calgary until 1970, when Jack took on early retirement and they moved to Anglemont, B.C. They enjoyed living there, taking part in all the activities of the community, such as golf and musical entertainment. They also enjoyed traveling especially during the winter months. After Jack died in 1998, Jean continued to live in Anglemont until 2003, when she returned to Calgary to be near family. She developed a serious heart condition in 2004 and survived a by pass operation to enjoy a further seven years. She is survived by sisters, Joan Sherriff, Joyce MacCuish, Elizabeth MacCuish ,Lois Radmore and nephew Eric Sherriff, his wife Valerie and family; nephew Gerry Giles and wife Maria and their family; nieces Kelli and Debra and their families. Jean was predeceased by her two brothers Aubrey in 1970 and Malcolm in 2001. A Celebration of life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.)
