Obituary of Mae Forgie BUCHANAN
February 1, 1917 – September 21, 2011
Mae Buchanan of Calgary passed away on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at the age of 94 years.
Mae was born in Winnipeg, MB on February 1, 1917. She worked with CP Rail for thirty-five years. Mae was the organist for several churches and taught piano and organ. She led a chorus of friends known as “The Buchanan Singers” which entertained at nursing homes for many years. She was the pianist and past honoured Royal Lady of the Royal Purple Lodge in Calgary.
Mae is survived by her daughter Mary Buchanan of Calgary; nieces, Mary Edwardsson of Winnipeg, Margaret Ann (Harvey) Hudson of Ft. Frances, ON, Elizabeth Mae (Harvey) Harrison of Calgary, and Isobel Petrone of Stony Plain, AB; nephew Ian Wilson (Dorothy) of Calgary; and their extended families; thirteen great-nieces and great-nephews. Mae was predeceased by her husband John Grinley Buchanan in 1986; her sister Ann (Jim) McLennan; and her brother John (Mary) Wilson.
Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Sunday, September 25, 2011 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at Holy Cross Anglican Church (2828 – 19th Street N.W.) on Monday, September 26, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
