Obituary of John Charles ELL

August 31, 1914 – September 20, 2011 John Charles Ell beloved husband of Kathleen Ell of Calgary, passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at the age of 97 years. John was born in Holdfast, Saskatchewan but also lived in Toronto and Edmonton before settling in Calgary. He had many occupations throughout his life including a school teacher, the Principal of Ryerson Institute Business Faculty, a teacher at Shaw Business Schools, and Deputy Director vocational training at Southern Alberta Institute of Technology. He was a World War II army sergent and was involved in repatriation of war veterans. John was an extremely competitive and feisty man but was always willing to lend a hand where he was needed. He attended St. Pius Catholic Church, where he also did charitable work. He was a member of Knights of Columbus and Toronto Executive Club. In his spare time, John loved camping in Waterton Lakes and listening to his favourite song Maria Elaina. He had many passions including winemaking, reading Shakespeare, hunting and training hunting dogs, playing billiards and playing the Stock Market. John would have said that his greatest life moments were his marriage to Kathleen on December 29, 1942, along with the birth of his children. Besides his loving wife Kathleen, he is survived by his son John David Ell (Mary Ell); daughter Maria Badyk; grandchildren Jessica and Michael-John Badyk; great-grandchildren Samantha and Luke Langenberger; as well as by his sisters Sr. Mary Ell and Bernice Ehman. He was predeceased by his brothers, Ignatz, Sebastian, Ralph, and Clem; sister Kathrine; and his parents Sebastian, Maria Ell.
