Obituary of Vera Marmora SIMPSON
April 11, 1921 – September 9, 2011
Vera Simpson of Calgary, passed away on Friday, September 9, 2011 at the age of 90 years.
Vera was born in Leeds, England and immigrated to Canada with her parents when she was a child. As a young adult, Vera moved to Winnipeg with the family, where she enlisted in the RCAF, serving as one of the first female wireless operators. Following the war, she married Peter Wyenberg and moved to Victoria, BC where their children were born. Vera was one of first women to be a member of Toastmasters International in Calgary. Vera was employed with Calgary Transit where she met Bill Simpson and they were married in the mid 1970’s. They resided in various locations in British Columbia, settling in Okotoks in the mid 1990’s.
Vera is survived by two sons and two daughters, Jean Wyenberg, Elana “Raye” Schumacher, Jim (Laurene) Wyenberg, and William Simpson; six grandchildren, Brenton Wyenberg, Jessie Wyenberg, Sarah Mink, Paula Schumacher, John Schumacher, and Phillip Schumacher; and a brother Jack Harding.
She was predeceased her husband Bill Simpson, her former husband Peter Wyenberg, her son Richard Wyenberg.
Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Thursday, September 15, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
