Obituary of Phyllis McCARTHY

June 11, 1922 – September 8, 2011 Phyllis McCarthy (nee Doran), born in Vancouver to parents George and Una, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 8, 2011 at age 89. After spending her childhood in California and Saskatchewan, Mom moved to Calgary in 1937 and remained a proud Calgarian to the end. Predeceased by her beloved husband Albert in 1981, Mom will be remembered with love by her children, Patricia, Kevin, Michael and Megan. She will also be dearly missed by her grandchildren, Tom, Jessica, Kate, Megan, Sean, Erin and Caitlin, of whom she was so very proud. One of her generation’s original multi-taskers, Mom juggled a home and the demands of four kids with work at Shell and later the University of Calgary, forging lifetime friendships, delight in the game of bridge, and a strong spirit of independence. Admired for her restrained wit, the strength of her convictions and enjoyment of a good mystery novel, our Mom will be fondly remembered and deeply missed. A Gathering will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
