Obituary of Carl Johan LYHNE
January 30, 1927 – August 26, 2011
Carl Johan Lyhne passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of August 26, 2011 at the age of 84, after a lengthy battle with diabetes. He had been a resident of the Agape Hospice for a lengthy period and was given the best care possible by the individuals there. This care was greatly appreciated by our family.
Carl Johan is survived by his wife, Marie, of 60 years, their two children – daughter Laila [husband Dwight McSorley and their children Nicole (husband Devin Murphy and sons Aiden and Cohen)], and Alea (her fiancé Ryan Hollins); son Jim (and his children Greg and Ashley)as well as family in Denmark.
Carl Johan worked for A.G.T./Telus for 31 years. He was a very skilled cabinetmaker, a journeyman carpenter, enjoyed working on cars, dabbled in oil painting and had fun drawing cartoons. Music was a big part of his life. He whistled, sang, yodelled and played the accordion and loved most all kinds of music. Carl Johan had an extremely inventive mind and was able to make something useful out of useless things. His was a creative personality with seemingly limitless energy.
Both Carl Johan and Marie enjoyed many long drives both in the countryside and the mountains. There was little he couldn’t share about the wonders of our part of the world. His interests were broad and his memory long. He was able to entertain many people with his stories which were enjoyed both for the information he could share as well as by his comedic flair. He had a real gift that way.
Carl Johan always showed great personal strength and had a family that loved him both because of it and in spite of it. He was here for his family through often trying times and will always be remembered with great love by us all.
A private family service to be held. For those wishing to send flowers, please consider a donation to the Diabetes Foundation in their place with our thanks.
BEDSTEFAR
Nicole and Devin Murphy
I know we are all feeling a little bit sad
That we’ve lost our Bedstefar, husband, friend, and Dad.
Together we have cried an ocean of tears
As we feel so empty and hold many fears.
But Bedstefar would want us to know he’s in a good place,
And that he’s watching us all, with a smile on his face.
As we have made him so proud, as proud as can be,
That he has raised such a beautiful and special family.
Thinking back now, I really must say,
I feel lucky and privileged to have known Bedstefar to this day.
For, in my life, you have played a special part.
The memories I will treasure, and keep close to your heart.
For me, I am glad, my little boys he did meet,
And we all are grateful, his life is now complete.
To each one of us he has given love and care,
And as a family, we’re thankful for the good times we’ve shared.
Although he has gone, we will always be together.
And his spirit will live on in each one of us forever.
When you look to the sky, look for the brightest star,
As that will be Bedstefar looking down from afar.
Bedstefar, if you are listening, say a prayer for us every day.
Be sure to protect us and guide us on our way.
We know when you were called, that you had to go,
But we want you to know Bedstefar, we miss you and love you so.
