Obituary of Anne-Marie SORBIE
March 15, 1935 – August 25, 2011
Anne-Marie Sorbie, beloved wife of Thomas H. Sorbie of Calgary, passed away on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at the age of 76 years.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife and mother. Anne-Marie was born in Scotland and married her husband Tom in January 1960 in Glasgow. Together they moved their family to Calgary in 1973. Music was her passion and she was a talented vocalist who sang with the Calgary Multicultural Choir, the Savridi’s (women’s choir) and at a number of Calgary folk clubs with her sisters Rose and Theresa and her daughter-in-law Kathy. Anne-Marie loved the mountains and spent many seasons camping in Canmore where she enjoyed time with her family and numerous friends. Anne-Marie and Tom were members of the Toaist Tai Chi Society for twenty years. Practicing helped ground her when Vascular Dementia threatened her well being.
Besides her loving husband of fifty-one years, Anne-Marie is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Tom Sorbie and Kathy Cook and Peter and Shannon Sorbie; two daughters and sons-in-law, Anne Sorbie and Bob Hallett and Rose Sorbie and Bill McLean all of Calgary; seven grandchildren, Kimberly Budziak (Collin McDougall), Stacey Budziak, Cheice Sorbie, Simon Sorbie, David Hallett, Bradley Hallett (Laura Smart), Brennan Hallett and another granddaughter due this November. She is also survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Pat Moran of Falkirk, Scotland; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Rose and Tony Page and Theresa and Tony Carolan all of Calgary.
