Obituary of Marie DANELIUK

August 15, 1922 – August 24, 2011 We are sad to announce the passing on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 of our beloved mother and grandmother, Marie Daneliuk, with her family lovingly by her side, yet rejoiced in knowing that she is with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and reunited with her long missed beloved. Marie was born August 15, 1922 in Whitesand, SK, the eighth of eleven children to Mike and Ann Zarowny. The family moved to Elk Point when she was seven years old where they remained until she ventured out at fifteen years of age to Derwent to help a doctor’s family for three years. She lived in Mundare and then worked in Edmonton with the Knights of Columbus training in hospitals. She went to Vernon and Chilliwack and then was highly recommended for pediatric training in Vancouver until V-Day. Her appendix burst and she returned to work with her twin sister Paula in their café. She met the love of her life, Bill, in that café as the oil field came to Elk Point. They dated for three years and married September 5, 1948 and within a few years, started their family. Marie was a simple woman who was a good wife and thought herself to be fortunate for what she had. She rejoiced in the birth of her children and considered herself to be blessed with all of her family. Her whole life she made a concerted effort not to hurt people. She loved being a hostess and her door was always open for family and friends. Marie was known as the aunt to always visit. She was an excellent cook and known for her hospitality and homemade bread, pies and Ukrainian recipes passed down through the generations. Marie was a very talented woman with hobbies that included, knitting, crocheting, paper toile, stitchery, ceramics, flower arranging, painting, music, bowling, exercise, gardening as well as being a marvelous seamstress, never stopping as evidenced by the tap dancing class taken in her early 80’s. Her husband admired her and was quoted “There is not a thing that she tries that she does not succeed at.” She enjoyed travelling and the various functions that came their way from the oil business. Above all, she loved reading her bible quietly every morning. Marie will be missed by her son Gary; daughters, Linda and Fay; and grandchildren, Lance, Shane, Troy and Mark. She is survived by her brother Bill of Elk Point; brothers-in-law, Ben (Muriel), Carl (Phyllis) and Victor; and many nieces and nephews. Marie was predeceased by her husband Bill on October 7, 2005 and siblings, Joe, Anton, Nellie, Paul, Steve, Paula, Margaret, Nick, and John.
