Obituary of Thomas STANTON

September 11, 1945 – August 21, 2011 It is with heavy hearts that the family announces that Tom passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 21, 2011 following a brief and courageous battle with cancer. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 36 years Adele, his cherished daughter Lindsay (Darcy Lien), sister Suzanne (Don Laughlin), brother Michael, brother-in-law Paul (Laverne Whitman) and his many special nieces and nephews. Lovingly remembered by Shannon Cosmescu and Alison Schaeffer for whom he had a special place in his heart. He was born in Arnprior, Ontario and predeceased by his parents, Earl and Ferne, and sister Sandra. Shortly after graduating from St. Francis Xavier University, he moved to Calgary where he began a lifetime career in the Insurance Industry. He was a successful businessman who deeply valued his strong relationships with his colleagues, many of whom became his treasured friends and confidants. He had a keen mind for business development and excelled in many aspects of the brokerage business. He had a great passion for cars and golf and was a member of Pinebrook G.C.C. where he enjoyed many friendly rounds of golf. He loved to travel to Palm Springs during the winter with his family, who were his greatest joy. Tom was a gifted story teller with an incredible sense of humor and a personality that filled the room. Tom strived to live a life of unconditional love and kindness that can be witnessed in the many close relationships that he maintained. Through Tom’s selflessness, one of his greatest joys came through helping others. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, friend and mentor, and will be deeply missed. His strong values and loving spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. Adele, Lindsay and Darcy extend heartfelt thanks to family and friends whose kind support sustained them through Tom’s illness. The family would also like to thank the dedicated staff at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre for the exceptional care they provided to Tom over the last few months – special thanks to Stephanie who was an angel. Tom – a kind and gentle soul who always said “we just have to put in the effort, the rest is up to God” – and that he did throughout his life, particularly during his illness.
