Obituary of Frederick William BROWN

July 19, 1922 – August 17 2011 Dad made his last cast on the evening of August 17, 2011. Our beloved husband, father and Grandie clasped the hand of his daughter Brenda, joining her in eternal light and love in heaven. Fred was 89 years old and passed away at the Carewest Colonel Belcher with his family at his side. He was born in Calgary, Alberta to Catherine and Elsdon Brown and was the second eldest of seven children. He was predeceased by his parents, his sister Dorothy and his daughter Brenda. Fred was a member of the Calgary Highlanders and was wounded in action during the Second World War. In 1946 he joined the Calgary Police Service and retired as Superintendent in 1978. He is survived by Vera, his dedicated and loving wife of sixty-seven years, his sons Fred (Diane), Ron and dear friend Maggie; grandchildren Michael (Sue), Greg (Trinette), Krista (Victor), Elizabeth (Rand), Jeff and Cody (April) as well as great-grandchildren Sydney, Misha, Anna, Kennedy, Rowan, Poppy, Katie, and Zoe. A memorial service celebrating Fred’s life will be conducted by Chaplain Kevin McInnes of the Calgary Police Service and Rev. Kenn Balzer, Chaplain of Carewest Colonel Belcher, on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
