Herman KAPPEL

Obituary of Herman Ludwig KAPPEL

May 29, 1965 – August 8, 2011 Herman Ludwig Kappel of Calgary, passed away unexpectedly of heart failure on Monday, August 8, 2011 at the age of 46 years. He was the beloved husband of Kim (Wonnek) and devoted father to his sons, Evan, eleven years of age and Aaron, nine years of age. Also left to mourn his loss are his mother Deanna Mallon; father Karl Kappel (Heather); brother Des Kappel (Lisa); mother-in-law and father-in-law Ena and Roy Wonnek; brother-in-law Ken (Susan); sister-in-law Bev (Bruce); and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews in Canada, United States and Germany; as well as many good friends in Ontario, Manitoba and Alberta. Lifelong friendships developed for Herman and his friends through their shared passion of sports and their involvement in their hockey pool. Herman’s deep abiding love for his sons Evan and Aaron took precedence over all his many interests. He was not only their father, but also their best friend and teacher. He spent hours with limitless patience and humour, guiding their development in all aspects of life from daily living to reading and fishing. He also taught them computer skills and enjoyed playing computer and video games with them. Evan and Aaron were truly the lights of his life. As a family, faith in God and belief in Jesus is what guided the path for Herman, his wife and boys. Through everything, the family remained committed to each other. This commitment allowed them to enjoy many of the small pleasures in life together like car rides in or around town, a game of badminton in the front yard, an afternoon at the lake or a game of boggle: simple, everyday memories to always be cherished. “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28 Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
