Obituary of Esther Eunice CAMPBELL
June 11, 1916 – August 5, 2011
Esther Campbell of Calgary passed away peacefully at the George Boyack Care Centre on Friday, August 5, 2011 at the age of 95 years.
Esther was born in Forestburg, AB to a large, happy family of nine sisters and four brothers. Esther and her dear twin sister Olive were part of fun loving family of hard workers and practical jokers. There have been many wonderful family reunions over the years and were a great time of joy and connection for all of us.
Esther came to Calgary in her twenties along with several of her sisters and married her husband James. They loved going dancing and getting together with friends. She was a terrific cook, knitter, crotchetier and seamstress. Esther kept her daughters fashionably dressed at a tenth of the store price as she was always quick to point out. One of her greatest joys in life was visiting with her friends, especially if there was plenty of cleaning, baking and gardening to get done at the same time. Esther seemed to know the time and routes of all the Calgary busses as she was out every day visiting, shopping, running errands or could always find a good excuse to go out. When her husband James went into the Colonel Belcher, she ended every day at his side at dinner time. You could always count on Esther to be there when you needed her.
Esther will be sorely missed by her dear friends Gerda and Chris Bubric; her friends and companions Diane Christenson and Ann Hardman and her daughter Barbara. A special thanks to the wonderful staff at George Boyack where she lived from 2007 and especially to the terrific girls on the third floor East Wing. They made her last years very comfortable, companionable and a great place for her family and friends to visit.
Esther is survived by her daughter Barbara Campbell of Chicago, IL; two sisters, Laurette Alexander and Laverne Lambert and their families. She was predeceased by her husband James Cowan Campbell on March 17, 1988 and her daughter Elizabeth Ann Campbell on July 3, 2009.
