Obituary of SMITH – Major Charley Paul

November 30, 1922 – August 2, 2011 On Tuesday, August 2, 2011, after a short illness Major Charley Smith passed away with his family by his side at the Rockyview General Hospital, Calgary, AB at the age of 88 years. Charley was born on November 30, 1922, in Erskine, AB, the son of the late Charles Wolfe and Ida May Smith. Charley and his wife Mildred devoted their lives to serving God as officers in The Salvation Army. Their last appointment was Chaplains at the Calgary Correctional Centre from 1976 to 1987. Charley lived the last three years at Trinity Lodge, and at the Chinook Care Centre since March of 2011. He was loved and respected by all who knew him. Charley was the beloved husband of Florence Mildred Smith for sixty-five years, a loving father to Larry (Marilyn) Smith, Linda (Harvey) Smith, Brian Smith and Betty (Stan) Lockhurst and grandfather to eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He will be joining his son Raymond and his wife Mildred in heaven. A celebration of Charley’s Life will be held at The Salvation Army Berkshire Citadel Community Church (222 Sandarac Drive N.W.) on Friday, August 5, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
